The speedometer has an optical encoder that is connected to a shaft and rubber traction tire that makes contact with the locomotive wheel. The speedometer calculates the scale speed of the locomotive by measuring the rpm of the encoder shaft that is turned by the locomotive wheel. In effect, the encoder measures the distance traveled by the locomotive wheel, irrespective of the wheel diameter, and speed = distance / time. The AO Rail Speedometer also has wifi for downloading
any firmware updates. The speedometer includes a power supply and operates completely independent of the DC or DCC system that is connected to the rolling road.

The AO Rail Locomotive Wheel Cleaner accessory works with the AO Rail Rolling Road. It accomodates B-B, C-C, and D-D truck locomotives. You can use any shop towel for economical cleaning strips (cut to 3 5/8" wide strips). No need for proprietary refills.
